Indigenous Health Curriculum in EM
Saturday, June 8
Time: 8:00-12:00
Location: TCU Place – Gallery A
In the spirit of “nothing for us without us”, it is critical to have Indigenous peoples create, evaluate and deliver Indigenous Health curriculum at all levels of education. This adheres to the following T.R.C. calls of action 22,23,24,65 (1)and UNDRIP articles 14,21,23,31 (2). We are fortunate enough to have created a team that is entirely Indigenous in Manitoba. We are hoping to start looking at an Indigenous healthcare in emergency medicine by understanding the Indigenous health curriculum that exists nationally in emergency medicine academic programs. Our Maori relatives have walked this path before us. (5) We would like to have an open curiosity to learn from their ways. We are seeking out to decolonize medical education from an EDI lens.
Learning Objectives
To value the truth in the experiences of Indigenous peoples in emergency medicine as a vital step towards reconciliation
To illustrate the work of the environmental scan of Indigenous Health curriculum
To provide care providers with a “toolkit” to feel personally and professionally strengthened to be allies in safely caring for Indigenous community members in emergency medicine.
